Beer, chicken and co: delicacies of the Munich innkeepers

WirtshausWiesn 2024: What's on offer for food and drink

Even outside the Theresienwiese, nobody has to miss out on the typical festival tent delicacies: the WirtshausWiesn offers its guests all the delicacies that are also available at the Oktoberfest. The golden festival beer is served in the more than 40 pubs, and the popular Oktoberfest delicacies are also on the menus. From chicken to Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick) and vegetarian dishes to sweet desserts.

They don't just supply the Oktoberfest: Munich's six breweries have brewed their famous Wiesnbier with more original gravity and serve it at the WirtshausWiesn:

  • Augustiner beer - at the Klosterwirt or also at the Augustiner am Dom and at Platzl
  • Hacker-Pschorr-Festbier: in the Hackerhaus, at Pschorr am Viktualienmarkt and in the Zum Stiftl pub
  • Hofbräu Wiesnbier - naturally at the Hofbräuhaus
  • Löwenbräu-Festbier - e.g. in the Ratskeller
  • Paulaner beer - e.g. in the Spöckmeier
  • Spaten beer - e.g. in the Spatenhaus and at the Schnitzelwirt

By the way: Breweries from the surrounding area such as Ayinger or Schneider also offer their beer in the pubs. Not a festival beer, but an eye-catcher and something different is the Guinness beer from Kilians Irish Pub am Dom!

From the beer tent to the pub: Oktoberfest chicken, roast pork & Co.

Because the way to the Oktoberfest is through the stomach and fine cuisine is good for the soul: From September 21 to October 6, 2024, you can eat like in a beer tent in many restaurants at the WirtshausWiesn! The classic is available almost everywhere: the freshly grilled Wiesn-Hendl!

Many restaurants at the WirtshausWiesn offer (often with an additional menu) popular Wiesn delicacies such as knuckle of pork, roast pork and co.

Creative cuisine at the WirtshausWiesn

In culinary terms, the Oktoberfest has long been much more than just chicken and knuckle of pork. In addition to the classics, the WirtshausWiesn restaurants also offer creative cuisine. A few examples:

  • At Christian Winklhofer's Schnitzelwirt, you can enjoy a WirtshausWiesn cordon bleu filled with Obazda (Bavarian cheese spread), bacon and onions.
  • Rudi Kull at Brenner serves a sophisticated WirtshausWiesn cocktail, the "Toboggan Gimlet".
  • Karl-Heinz Wildmoser's Pizzarei am Dom actually offers Italian specialties, but there is also a WirtshausWiesn pizza creation here for the WirtshausWiesn.

A feast for vegetarians: Kasspatzn & more

The days when Oktoberfest delicacies consisted only of meat dishes are long gone:

  • The vegetarian classic: Kasspatzen or Käsespätzle - for example with good cheese from Tegernsee at Hofbräuhaus.
  • Also: superfood salads at Café Luitpold and baked potatoes - for example at Kilians.
  • All in all, the choice is huge: the veggie options in the more than 40 restaurants range from spinach and pretzel dumplings to warm potato salad and Obazda.

Kaiserschmarrn & Co.: Something sweet for dessert

When it comes to food, the Oktoberfest not only stands for hearty and savory dishes, but also for wonderful desserts - the first thing that comes to mind is of course the Kaiserschmarrn from Café Rischart, which is available in different variations and is known from Café Kaiserschmarrn on the Oktoberfest.

Café Woerner's offers roasted almonds and special WirtshausWiesn chocolates (Obstler and Brezn chocolates)!

Café Luitpold serves homemade tiramisu as well as cakes and tarts from the in-house patisserie. And of course, steamed dumplings and apple strudel are also on the menu in many restaurants.

We wish you a wonderful WirtshausWiesn 2024 and look forward to your visit!
